Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida (1863–1923) was a Spanish painter, born in Valencia, who, at the age of fifteen, enrolled in the Academy of San Carlos in Valencia, Spain. Later, after studying in Rome and Paris, he settled in Valencia, where he developed the high-keyed painterly style for which he is famous.
