Evening in New York, 1890

Evening in New York, 1890

Frederick Childe Hassam

The Hassams returned from Europe to America and settled in New York City in 1889, the art capital of the U.S., to get nearer to important artists, dealers and collectors.
He is said to have painted works such as Evening in New York from a perch on a cab, using the front seat as his easel. Hassam’s interest in the details of modern urban life and its incessant flux, along with his use of flickering, broken brushwork to convey it, mark his conversion to impressionism, the portrayal of everyday subjects through such techniques.

The painting will be delivered unstreched, rolled in protective & presentable case.
